History
The Graduate Physics Program (PPGF) of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) was founded in November 1985 (via CONSEPE Resolution 158/85 published 14/10/85 and CONSUNI Resolution 99/85 of 17/10/85). The program was originally named Master’s course in physics (Curso de Mestrado em Física), specializing in condensed matter physics.
In 1993 the doctoral program was founded, also specializing in condensed matter physics (via CONSEPE Resolution 102/93 of 22/06/93 and CONSUNI Resolution 001/93 of 22/09/93). The name of the program was changed to Programa de Pós-Graduação em Física (PPGF). The new graduate program awarded both masters degrees as well as doctorates.
The alumni include more than 200 masters degree holders and more than 150 doctors in physics. They come from all over Brazil, as well as from other countries. There are approximately 90 students currently enrolled.
